About Rometal

Our client Rometal Constructive Solutions, established in 2000, is recognized for its highly qualified steel constructions for the maritime and offshore industry. In addition to the transportation and installation of new-build constructions, they modify existing constructions and (de)mobilize heavy-lift vessels.

The Rotterdam site, including well-equipped production halls, is ideally located and provides direct access to the river Maas. Rometal also has a production site in Romania.

For Rometal, we are currently searching for an experienced: Senior Project Buyer

Job profile

As Senior Project Buyer, you will play a key role in the procurement of complex on- and offshore construction projects. You are responsible for sourcing and purchasing the materials, equipment and services required for the successful execution of Rometal's projects.

You will be involved from the early stages of a project and actively contribute at a technical level during the preparation and development phase. With your technical understanding and practical mindset, you think along with Project Managers, Engineers and Sales to determine the most effective purchasing strategy and identify the right solutions.

You will have full budget responsibility for project procurement, ensuring that materials, equipment and services are purchased within budget, meet the required specifications and are delivered on time.

In addition to managing operational purchasing activities, you will contribute to setting up and further professionalizing the procurement process. You will help establish structure, improve processes and create a more professional and efficient purchasing organization.

The role is highly dynamic. Every day brings different challenges, requiring you to switch easily between strategic thinking, technical discussions, commercial negotiations and operational purchasing activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead project purchasing for complex on- and offshore construction projects.
• Take responsibility for the purchasing budget of projects, ensuring procurement activities remain within agreed budgets.
• Contribute to projects from the early development and preparation phase, providing technical input and thinking along with Project Managers, Engineers and Sales.
• Set up and further professionalize the procurement process, including processes, structures and ways of working.
• Source and purchase materials, equipment and services from existing and new suppliers.
• Maintain daily contact with suppliers and develop long-term supplier relationships.
• Supplier management in accordance with company certifications (such as ISO 9001).
• Negotiate prices, terms, delivery times and contractual conditions.
• Ensure the availability of the right materials, parts and services at the right time.
• Coordinate the expediting process and monitor delivery performance.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers and the Sales department.
• Manage and coordinate the activities of one operational purchaser within the team.
• Provide guidance, support and direction to the operational purchaser.
• Identify practical and creative solutions when technical, logistical or commercial challenges arise.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes and the overall purchasing organization.

This position requires a technically minded and highly organized professional who combines commercial awareness with a practical, hands-on approach. You enjoy working on complex technical projects, are comfortable taking ownership and are able to find creative and pragmatic solutions.

You have a strong affinity with technology and preferably a background in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable technical discipline. At the same time, you understand that successful project procurement requires more than simply purchasing: it requires technical insight, commercial judgment, planning and close cooperation with colleagues and suppliers.

You are confident taking responsibility for substantial project budgets and enjoy working in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly.

Your profile

• MBO/HBO or Bachelor's degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable technical field, NEVI with technical interest is also a possibility.
• Experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain management within offshore, onshore, energy, shipbuilding, construction or a similar technical industry.
• A strong technical affinity and preferably a Mechanical Engineering background or equivalent technical interest and experience.
• Experience with project-based procurement and budget responsibility.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Able to understand technical requirements and translate these into practical purchasing solutions.
• Creative and solution-oriented, with a pragmatic and hands-on mindset.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Sales, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
• A proactive, independent and results-oriented mindset.
