Product Designer (consumer app) - Behaviour, retention & prototyping

We're Monny. We build AI-driven technology to help people gain control over their money and reduce financial stress. Our mission is to make financial wellbeing accessible to everyone, not just the financially savvy.

50% of Dutch people experience financial stress, yet most tools only show what you spent last month, not what to do next. That's why we're building the first AI financial coach that shows you actionable insights, and answers real-life questions like "How do I recover from this surprise bill?" with concrete, personalised action plans.

At the heart of Monny is a conversational AI assistant. Users talk to Monny, learn from Monny, and make financial choices together with Monny. It's a new kind of interaction, more like a gamified coach than a dashboard.

We're a small team of three co-founders, a front-end developer and a budget coach, based in the heart of Amsterdam by the canals. We usually work from our office, but we also work remotely every now and then, ideally as a team.

Backed by early traction and a growing list of B2B partners, we're now looking for a Product Designer to help us move from a validated prototype into a production product. We already have a foundation: the core mechanism and direction are in place. The work now is to build on top of that by identifying the most important problems to solve, prototyping solutions with users, shipping them into production, and then optimising what's already implemented towards the best user experience and retention.

What you'll do

• Own product design for a consumer mobile app in production : from flows and interaction design to UI and design specs engineers can build.
• Design for retention : think beyond single screens and design what happens after day 1, week 1, month 1.
• Create behaviour-guiding mechanisms : use timing, sequencing, and gradual release of information to help users take steps without overwhelming them.
• Work tightly with engineers : iterate fast, make trade-offs, and ship high-quality experiences.
• Run a tight learn → build → measure loop : combine user research, product signals, and experiments to continuously improve the product. 
• Talk to users regularly : do quick interviews/tests to validate solutions before building, and learn from real usage after launch.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves

• Experience designing shipped consumer-facing apps (not only internal tools or short-lived prototypes).
• Experience in retention-driven consumer products (where churn/engagement matters a lot).
• You’ve seen what happens after launch : you know how products evolve, and you’ve improved existing experiences based on usage.
• Strong product thinking: you design systems over time , not just “a flow”.
• Comfortable iterating based on real usage: you’re used to shipping, seeing what works, and improving the product step by step.
• You can prototype to explore and validate ideas: you’re comfortable creating quick prototypes to test flows, timing, and interaction.
• Familiarity with, and an interest in AI, and the latest AI assisted tools for speeding up the design loop.
• Strong collaboration: you can lead, communicate clearly, and work closely with engineers.
• You speak both Dutch and English on a professional level

Big plus

• Background in highly data-driven consumer apps or game/game-like products (you think in “mechanisms” and “behaviour”).
• Experience designing onboarding, habit formation, and long-term engagement loops.
