Job description

For our client from the energy industry, we are looking for an Instrumentation Engineer with the potential to advance into the position of Controls Engineer in the short term. Before transitioning into the Controls Engineer role, you will first complete a period of approximately one year in the position of Instrumentation Engineer. During this time, you will be fully onboarded and immersed in our product and organization.

Instrumentation engineering work

You are the technical expert who determines the heartbeat of the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). As an Instrumentation Engineer, you take full responsibility for selecting the right instruments to ensure optimal performance.

In this dynamic role, you bridge the gap between technical requirements and practical implementation, and

• You draft precise technical specifications for purchasing and evaluate supplier quotations and documentation with a critical eye.
• You are a connector pur sang, working closely with project team members in process, design, and supply.
• Your goal is to ensure that all contractual requirements are met and interfaces are implemented flawlessly.

Besideds that:

• You lay the foundation for success by preparing essential documents such as instrument lists, equipment specifications, and technical datasheets.
• Your scope is broad and challenging; you are responsible for transmitters, flow devices, temperature element assemblies, and local instruments.
• Additionally, you manage instrument hook-ups and instrumentation on complex package units like burners and SCRs.

Controls Engineering work

You define the operational heartbeat of the plant. As a Controls Engineer, you set the crucial boundary conditions that guarantee the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG).

In this pivotal role, you take ownership of the implementation process, and:

• You translate complex requirements into clear documentation and act as a key partner during customer and site meetings focused on safety, controls, and testing.
• You are a connector pur sang, collaborating closely with experts in instrumentation, electrical, thermal, and design life disciplines.
• Your sharp focus ensures that every contractual requirement is met and controls are implemented flawlessly.

Furthermore:

• You make a tangible impact on the entire system lifecycle.
• You are responsible for drafting the system description (control narrative) and Functional Controls Diagrams.
• You oversee the critical phases of start-up, shut-down, and general operation of the HRSG.
• You ensure the highest safety standards through HAZOP studies and SIL assessments, manage the Burner Management System, and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
• When it matters most, you provide expert site support to keep the process control systems running at peak performance.

Qualifications

• Bsc. or Msc. degree in a discipline that has common grounds with the subject matter (for example Chemical Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Process Technology)
• At least 3 years of experience as instrumentation or controls engineer, and in working with databases
• General knowledge of DCS systems and preferably have knowledge of Siemens T3000 controls system or SIMATIC PCS 7
• General knowledge of measurement and control technology, and good understanding of fluid flow and heat transfer technology
