The Opportunity
We are seeking a Finance Project Controller – Real Estate to join TenneT’s Business Guidance (BGN) team, supporting the Strategic Real Estate department (BTO-RE&FM) .
This team is responsible for delivering real estate solutions that support TenneT’s operational growth — including office facilities, control centres, warehouses and critical infrastructure such as datacenters.
You will take financial ownership of several large real estate projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget, within timeline, and with full financial transparency .
This is a hands-on role where you will help build the financial project control framework within the department.
The Role
As Finance Project Controller, you will work closely with project management, facility management and finance stakeholders to provide financial oversight and strategic guidance across multiple real estate projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Acting as the financial sparring partner to project management teams
• Supporting balanced decision-making by providing clear insight into financial results, risks, and opportunities
• Managing the Planning & Control cycle , including budgets, forecasts, and latest estimates
• Delivering accurate project and management reporting on financial performance
• Monitoring project progress across budget, scope, planning, and quality
• Identifying financial risks and ensuring timely corrective actions
• Supporting the preparation and review of investment proposals and decision documents
• Contributing to the professionalisation and standardisation of project controlling within the department
About the Facility Management Department
The Facility Management (FM) department manages all office and building facilities within TenneT across the Netherlands and Germany.
Operating as a demand–supply organisation , the department collaborates with numerous external partners and contractors. The portfolio includes:
• Technical services (building maintenance, installations, security systems)
• Construction and renovation projects
• Facility services (reception, servicedesk, mobility services, handyman services)
• Business-critical locations including datacenters and operational sites
What We’re Looking For
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management or project controlling within large construction or real estate projects
• Experience with large real estate or infrastructure programmes in utility or commercial construction environments
• Familiarity with UAV / UAV-GC contract structures is a strong advantage
Education
• University level education in fields such as:
Technical Skills
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or Analytics for Office
• Experience with ERP systems
• SAP S/4HANA experience is a strong plus
Personal Skills
• Strong communication skills in Dutch and English
• Able to work independently while collaborating within cross-functional teams
• Comfortable working in a dynamic project environment with evolving structures
• Proactive mindset with the ability to build frameworks rather than operate within fixed ones
Project Environment
The role focuses on large and complex real estate projects , including:
• Renovation of acquired datacenters
• Development of control centres
• Construction or refurbishment of office and warehouse facilities
Both new build and renovation projects are included.
This position is unique in that you will be the first financial controller embedded within the department , laying the groundwork for future financial governance structures that a future Finance Project Lead will build upon.
Practical Information
• Location: Arnhem (Netherlands)
• Hybrid working: 2–3 days per week on-site
• At the start of the assignment, additional office presence may be required
Security requirements:
• VOG (Certificate of Conduct) required before start
• Pre-Employment Screening (PES) applies
• AIVD security screening is required (limited work may start during the screening process)
Extension of the assignment may be possible depending on project needs.
