Mechanical Construction manager

The Mechanical Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing all mechanical construction activities on assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and contract specifications. This role manages field teams, subcontractors, and vendors while coordinating closely with project management, engineering, and client representatives.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

• Oversee installation of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and process systems.
• Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Develop and manage construction schedules in coordination with project management.
• Monitor project progress and proactively address delays or conflicts.
• Conduct constructability reviews and participate in pre-construction planning.

T eam & Subcontractor Management

• Supervise mechanical superintendents, foremen, and field personnel.
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure performance aligns with scope and quality standards.
• Conduct regular site meetings to review progress, safety, and quality expectations.
• Support workforce planning and manpower forecasting.

Budget & Cost Control

• Track labour productivity and equipment usage.
• Assist with cost forecasting and budget management.
• Review and approve invoices, change orders, and field work directives.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce company and site-specific safety policies.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and local regulatory requirements.
• Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all project teams.

Quality Assurance

• Ensure all installations meet engineering specifications and industry standards.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Manage punch lists and oversee project closeout procedures.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

• Serve as the primary field contact for clients and project stakeholders.
• Provide regular progress updates and reports.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project controls teams to resolve issues.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• 7–10+ years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Experience in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and construction methods.
• Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, MS Project).
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong budgeting, scheduling, and cost-control experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
