Originally concentrating on refrigerated cargo trade, Seatrade has expanded its ship owning and ship management activities into a variety of trades. With the Shipmanagement offices in Groningen and Vado (Italy) and the commercial office in Breda, an ambitious team of professionals contribute to an efficient fleet and chartering operation, whilst giving optimum customer service.

Our Legal team is currently looking for a new colleague in the position of: 

LEGAL & CLAIMS ADVISOR

What you will do

In this challenging position at the Legal Department, you are part of a team of experts. You will be dealing with a variety of legal affairs. One of the main focuses will be dealing with all types of claims (e.g. cargo and stevedore claims). Furthermore you will give legal advice on several topics, including contracts, charterparties, sanctions, trade regulations and compliance matters. Your daily work includes but is not limited to:

-       Handling cargo claims files which often relate to damage of refrigerated- and frozen food

-       Handling other claims such as recovery claims, stevedore claims, invoice collection

-       Give support to the business on the performance of trade lines and advice on specific problems

-       Advice on several legal matters such as sanctions, trade regulations compliance

-       Maintaining good contact with vessel owners, liability underwriters, cargo interests

-       Appointing experts and lawyers all over the world

-       Staying in close contact with the various stakeholders of the business in order to handle and prevent various types of (cargo) damage

-       Pursuing recovery actions against third parties when possible/applicable 

-       In general, giving legal support to the business

There is plenty of opportunity to grow in the position and to work independently.

What we require

-       Bachelor or Master in the legal or insurance field

-       Preferably more than two years of relevant work experience, however a very enthusiastic starter is welcome to apply 

-       Affinity with the Maritime industry and strong interest in the Maritime legal field 

-       Assertiveness and accuracy as a second nature

-       Good written and spoken knowledge of the Dutch and English language, 

-       A team player, enthusiastic and enterprising personality with a pro-active approach

-       Capable of working independently and to establish priorities with no 9 to 5 mentality,

-      Proven organisational, social and communication skills and the ability to manage stressful situations

-       To be based in the vicinity of our office Groningen (or readiness to move)

-       EU citizen or otherwise in possession of a Dutch work visa.
