Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for designing cutting-edge substation systems? Our client is seeking a skilled Secondary Design Engineer to join their dynamic team and contribute to critical high-voltage infrastructure projects.

About the Company

Our client is a well-known engineering consultancy specializing in multidisciplinary engineering of high-volage infrastructure in the Netherlands. Currently they are on a lookout for a Senior Secondary Engineer, who will take full ownership of the secondary engineering scope within complex high-voltage substation projects. You will lead the detailed engineering phase from concept through execution, translating technical requirements into reliable, compliant, and buildable protection and control solutions.

What Will You Do?

As a Secondary Design Engineer , you’ll be pivotal in delivering reliable, safe, and cutting-edge substation systems. Your focus will be on protection, control, automation, and telecommunication systems in high-voltage environments.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Defining protection philosophies and developing functional specifications and control narratives.
• Preparing single-line, logic, schematic, and wiring diagrams.
• Performing AC/DC calculations, CT/VT sizing, cable and fiber sizing, and selecting protection relays.
• Designing protection and control panels, including component specification, terminal allocation, wiring concepts, and layout design.
• Providing engineering input for CAD/EPLAN finalization and panel manufacturing.
• Engineering auxiliary power systems and substation communication networks.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients to ensure compliance, technical excellence, and timely project delivery.

What Do You Bring?

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related)
• 10+ years’ experience in secondary engineering for HV substations
• Strong knowledge of protection, control, automation & telecom systems
• Proficient in tools like DIgSILENT, EPLAN, ETAP, PSCAD (ELCAD-AUCOPLAN is a big plus)
• Familiar with IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards; IEC 61850 is a bonus
• Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
• Team player with international project experience and the ability to work independently
