Back End Infrastructure Developer (DevOps)

Role Overview:

Join the DevOps Core Platform team at a leading Dutch telecommunications provider, playing a key role in a platform transformation. You will design, build, and automate the foundational platform capabilities that enable our developers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable software. This role is primarily focused on backend platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps tooling, with occasional frontend work for internal dashboards and developer portals.

Type of contract: permanent employment / full time or contracting / freelancing

Duration of contract: up to 1-2 years initial duration

Model of working: 2-3 days / week at the client's office in Hague, Netherlands

Key Responsibilities:

• Build, maintain, and improve core platform services that support delivery teams across the organization.

• Develop backend services and automation tooling in TypeScript/Node.js (NestJS).

• Design and implement GitOps-driven environment provisioning using CI/CD pipelines, ArgoCD, Helm, and Kubernetes.

• Operate and evolve our AWS- and EKS-based cloud platform using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

• Integrate platform capabilities with enterprise systems such as Salesforce, Netcracker, Storyblok, and internal APIs.

• Implement secure-by-default patterns including secrets management, identity, networking, and compliance controls.

• Contribute to architectural decisions around distributed systems, cloud-native services, and container orchestration.

• Drive reliability through monitoring, observability, automation, and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate closely with platform, cloud, SRE, and security teams within an Agile/Scrum environment.

Networking & Security

• Enterprise networking fundamentals

• Zero-trust and least-privilege approaches

• Secure coding and platform security best practices

Required Experience:

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience

• Strong backend engineering with Node.js/NestJS

• Building and operating Kubernetes-based platforms (EKS preferred)

• Experience with IaC (Terraform) and GitOps ecosystems

• Running workloads on AWS at scale

• Experience with enterprise-grade systems or large organizations

• CI/CD, automation, and DevOps best practices

• Working in Agile/Scrum teams

• Solid understanding of algorithms, distributed systems, and system design

Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
